Getting to know the first graduate of the "Neural Knitwear" course - Daria Olenicheva.
Hello! The main character of the collection is a strong woman who survives in the "digital" desert. To do this, it's important for her to remain genuine, sincere, and unique. Her clothing should be comfortable while helping her stand out from the crowd.

What challenges did you face during the creation?
—The challenge was that I had never worked with machine-knit textiles before. It was both new and intimidating because there were many nuances in creating samples that I couldn't have handled without the help of the course instructors and curators.

Expectations from the course and results. What did you like the most?
— At the beginning of the course, I had no expectations, I tried to immerse myself fully in learning. I looked forward to each class because it was interesting to learn not only about knitwear production but also about working with neural networks. I was delighted after completing the course!

As a result, I gained a lot of experience in working with neural networks and creating items with unique and original designs. Most of all, I liked the people who surrounded me throughout the course.

The theme of my collection is "mermaid core" This line of clothing is about femininity and refinement, for women who love to shine and sparkle. It's inspired by marine motifs and the mythological image of the mermaid. The relaxed clothing is suitable for vacations or for those who really want to get into the mood.
The most challenging part for me was understanding how the fabric is knitted, how to calculate loops, and how to place the print on these loops. Since we were limited in the number of colors that could be used in the product, our task was to select a pattern that had clear outlines and wasn't too detailed, with a focus on light and shadows. The goal was to make the pattern understandable and aesthetic.
Regarding the organization of the course, I want to emphasize that everything was very convenient and well planned, even though our group was the first. I think this is quite rare.
The material was presented in the right sequence, with no unnecessary information. Personally, I learned a lot about neural networks and plan to continue exploring the topic on my own. The show was simply grand!
It was fantastic to be a part of such an event; at times, it was even exciting. Many thanks for this opportunity; it felt like a childhood dream came true. By the way, thanks to @eva_sxema for organizing the photoshoot before the runway. As a result, I have great photos with the complete look on a cool model. In general, my expectations for the course were much lower because it seemed impossible to gain so much information and practice in just a month and a half. But in the end, it was a fantastic and fulfilling experience! I don't know of any other courses that offer practical experience in production, especially with such dedication! All the instructors were available at all times and for any questions, and their involvement was no less than the students.

Hello! My collection is a reflection on the impact of virtuality on the physical world through the means of recording information. It's about the duality of life in the virtual and real dimensions. These dimensions are not equivalent, yet they influence each other. That's why my model's clothing has an asymmetrical cut and a double layer.
I want to talk separately about the print. The main character for the collection is the flamingo with a surveillance camera instead of a head from the project: "Digital Guardian: Do You WATCH?" by media artist Petr Elgiser. With permission from the author, of course, I retrained the neural network Stable Diffusion with the help of LoRa using his art and obtained a large number of images. For the sweatshirt print, I chose a flamingo with a raised leg. This is how I imagine virtuality invading our world.
Did you manage to embody what you wanted?
Yes, and once again, yes!
It's an exciting process: first, describing the idea, visualizing it, assembling it in Clo3D, going through all the pains with pixels, patterns, and ultimately seeing your virtual garment being sewn in real-time.
What did you like most about the course program?
— I liked everything. The initial lectures on trend analysis and neural networks were impressive. I especially want to mention Eva's lecture on trademark registration and entering marketplaces. It's essential to be well-versed in all aspects now. And, of course, the weekends with our desinator Said was invaluable in production. Many joked that I had changed my profession and started working in a factory.

Turning all of this into a beautiful visualization with the code name "Traces of the Virtual World" was helped by the team:
